Noel had a succesful second day in the Marshall house. I continue to keep a log of her bathroom habits, looking for progress and information along the way. There was a dramatic decrease in the number of #1 and #2s, by about 50%. I haven't put her on a feeding schedule, which would make things easier for me because she needs to be confined whenver I can't watch her. I have decided the priority is to keep her mouth busy on Kongs stuffed with kibble to keep her occupied in the crate and pen. Noel spent last night in her crate again for 8 hours and held it all night. I am amazed at her patience in the crate. She never whines, just waits for me to wake up. I took Noel out for a walk for the first time yesterday. She pulled like a cart horse on her colllar, but was an angel with an Easy Walk harness. Noel is a great walker. She was attentive to me, walked politely, sat when asked to and didn't show any reactions to cars or people out and about. I also chat with my neighbors for quite awile and she quietly and patiently waited by my side. Very impressive. I keep searching for the bad news about this dog, but can't find any so far. Noel is a real doggie dog. She really loves to play with all kinds of toys. She fetches tennis balls, chases a fox tail, and will lay down and chew a stick whenever she finds one. She likes to dig a shallow hole and place a toy in it and then brushes the dirt on top of it with her snout. It's amazing to watch. I really hope I can manage to capture this on video. She digs the holes along the edge of the house and fence line and fills them in! I would suggest a digging pit for her in her new home so she can practice her talent in an appropriate location. This morning she did the same behavior in the crate. She put her chew toy in the corner and nudged the towel over it to save it for later! My goal today is to continue to record her housetraining progress and to give her some free time in the house to learn to "be" inside without having accidents. Right now she is on the floor in front of me happily chewing a bully stick with my dogs nearby. No aggression with a valued item. Again, more good news. This an an adoptable dog and I hope someone out there sees what I see. She is being temperment tested and trained for manners. It's really a great opportunity for someone to get a new dog and have me do all the hard work! |
